Rewriting:

-Type 1

If … not = unless

Ex: Unless it rains we will go for a walk 

     If it doesn,t rain we will go 

(Reference to future)

Ex: Press this button and it will turn on

     If you press this button, it will turn on

-Type 2

(Reference to the present)

-Hypothetical situation:

Ex: I,m not tall, so I can,t reach the shelf

     If I were/was tall, I would/could reach the shelf

-Type 3

(Reference to the past)

Ex: She didn,t study hard enough so she failed the exam  

     If she had studied hard enough she wouldn,t have failed

When
